Frequently Asked Questions About Employee Benefits

How many employees do I need to offer group health insurance?

In many cases, a business may qualify for small-group health insurance with at least one eligible common-law employee in addition to the owner. Eligibility requirements can vary by insurance company, business structure, employee participation, and state rules. We review your situation before recommending a group plan or an alternative such as an ICHRA.

A fully insured plan transfers eligible claims risk to the insurance company in exchange for a fixed premium. Level-funded plans combine predictable monthly payments with some features of self-funding. Self-funded arrangements give employers greater control but also involve more claims risk and administrative responsibility.

An Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement allows an employer to reimburse employees for qualifying individual health insurance premiums and, depending on the plan design, other eligible medical expenses. Whether an ICHRA is appropriate depends on your workforce, budget, employee classes, and the individual coverage available where employees live.

We generally need basic information about your business and eligible employees, including ages, ZIP codes, coverage status, dependent needs, and current benefits. Additional information may be required depending on the funding strategy and insurance company.

Yes. We remain available to help with enrollment, employee questions, renewals, plan changes, and communication with the insurance company or plan administrator. Our relationship does not end when your coverage begins.

There is generally no additional fee for working with us when we are compensated by the insurance company or benefits provider. If a particular arrangement involves a separate consulting or administrative fee, it will be clearly explained before you make a decision.
